Rocks and Minerals

Z has a natural interest in stones, crystals and other natural objects. So we started a Unit of Inquiry on Earth's Resources, specifically soil, rocks and minerals. We watched videos on how rocks are formed. We ordered a mineral testing kit and performed experiments. He went to the beach to collect sand and to the garden to collect peaty soil. We will ask his pottery teacher to give him some clay and do another experiment to see how quickly water drains through these differents soils. He learned what it means to "define" a word and also to give examples. We continued working on using Venn Diagrams and building classification trees.
