About Us
When we decided to pull our 8.5 year old son out of school this year, I went through a serious existential crisis. You see, I am an educator and I have spent the last two decades of my professional life helping schools flourish and become spaces that are safe and inclusive for all children. It was a hard pill for me to swallow, that I could not do the same for my own child.
My son - Z - is an incredibly bright, super curious, energetic, hilarious, sensitive boy who has also been diagnozed with ADHD.
School is not working out for him, right now. So we will be homeschooling him. We don't know how or for how long. We are taking it one day at a time and we will learn as we go.
I am using this blog to journal our experiences along the way, the mistakes and successes we have, the resources we find useful, the commuity we hope to find and the lessons we learn.
I write because writing is cathartic and brings accountability. And perhaps because the educator in me hopes that you, the reader, will take away something useful from the posts here.
Perhaps, everything that I have learned in my career thus far, has been in preparation for this phase of my life and Z was sent to us to challenge all the ways we took for granted!
